Our field trip was an exciting way to learn about Connecticut Government. This is our top 10 things we learned on our trip:
- At one time there were TWO capitols. One was in New Haven and one was in Hartford.
- There are two types of trials: criminal and civil.
- A Governor is elected by votes.
- The Statue of Justice, which used to be on top of the Old State House, symbolizes protection and justice.
- The Connecticut state hero is Nathan Hale.
- The Connecticut state hero is Prudence Crandall.
- Senators have a two-year term.
- The Statue of the Guardian Angel, inside the capitol, represents different Connecticut symbols.
- When senators vote on a bill, they can press "yea" for yes or "nah" for no.
- The top of the capitol is made out of gold. If you scraped of the gold the amount would be the size of a softball.
