Our first two days have been busy! We have participated in activities on getting to know our classmates, establishing classroom routines, jumping right into readers workshop and beginning our first class novel, "Windcatcher" by Avi. This novel is full of adventure and takes place in Connecticut's Thimble Islands. Our first literacy unit will be focusing on story elements, with a theme on core values. On friday afternoon we played a game called Places Please to begin our first math unit, place value. It was such a pleasure to begin to get to know the class. I am looking forward to the year! | |

Hi Mrs. Kilroy! I know you were upset that I did not right a comment right away but now I am going to tell you and your class about my book that I am reading. I am reading a book called Out Of My Mind. It is about a girl named Melody she can not talk walk or take care of herself and sense she can not talk everything she has seen and herd she remembers. More into the story she gets a computer device that "talks for her" so when she brings it to school so when she took this test for a "triva" sort of game she wins the contest/test the kids in her class thinks she cheated because she has an aid [a person that helps people that need help doing special things] and her aid stands with her wherever she goes so everybody thought she cheated sense she had an aid and the other kids were laughing at her sense she needs special help. That is all I have read so far., hope you enjoy!

So glad you visited our class website. The book sounds like a good read. Would it be appropriate for fourth grade? It sounds similar to "Wonder" that we read last year. Next week we are going to choose a read aloud. Our choices are "Wonder" or "The One and Only Ivan" ? Which one would you pick? Why?
